While studying at Michigan, she was granted a prestigious fellowship for Foreign Language and Area Studies from the U.S. Department of Education. Christine speaks fluent Spanish, having studied the language for over 13 years. She is also proficient in Portuguese.
As an undergraduate, Christine took courses in language education, and volunteered as an English as a Second Language (ESL) tutor for Ann Arbor Public Schools, while also working as a teaching assistant in a course for ESL graduate students working towards passing their language proficiency exams. She later received a TEFL certification to teach English as a foreign language abroad.
After completing over a year of intensive teacher training on pedagogy, classroom management, sociology, psychology, and social justice, Christine co-taught a class of undergraduate students for the Program on Intergroup Relations at the University of Michigan. Throughout the course, she assisted diverse groups of students in exploring difficult intergroup political and sociological issues, planned coursework and created and graded assignments for students.
In 2015, Christine joined the inaugural Remote Year program, where she worked remotely and lived in a different country each month for a year, including four months in Spanish-speaking countries. Her personal and professional travels have taken her to more than 65 countries across five continents.
Christine spends much of her time traveling across the country to help top universities with their toughest challenges, including identifying and assisting at-risk students, increasing graduation rates, decreasing time to graduation, and supporting underrepresented student populations.
In her spare time, Christine also volunteers with several local and international organizations. She has worked with the Latin American Youth Center of Washington D.C. to support and mentor latin@ youth as they pursue their GED certificates and join the workforce. She also recently traveled to Cuba to volunteer with Muraleando, an Arts Education NGO. Christine also enjoys traveling, reading, and listening to podcasts in her spare time.
