Usama Awan graduated from The Ohio State University in 2015 with a B.A. in Arabic. Along with his Arabic studies he studied two years of Persian. Similarly, he completed his pre-medicine requirements simultaneously with his language studies. During his undergraduate studies, he received the Foreign Language Area Studies Scholarship multiple times in both Arabic and Persian. In 2012 and 2014 he had the opportunity to study Arabic at the Middlebury Immersion Program helping him to achieve fluency in Modern Standard Arabic.
Along with his Arabic and Persian studies, Usama had the fortune of being a part of the
Publications team of his Youth group and had the opportunity to translate a biographical book
from Urdu to English. He continues to work on translations of various articles, speeches and
books from Urdu to English and has found an even deeper appreciation for language with his
work.
During his undergraduate studies, Usama had the opportunity to volunteer for Humanity
First multiple times, taking him to Guatemala for a health camp as well as to New York City after
Hurricane Sandy. These experiences, along with volunteering at free clinics and hospitals
helped to further his interest in medicine.
Scoring in the 99th percentile on the MCAT, he entered medical school at The Ohio
State University with a full tuition scholarship. He is currently in his final year and plans to apply
to Radiology residency this application cycle.
In his spare time, he enjoys basketball and soccer along with running. He still continues to improve on his skills in Arabic and Persian and enjoys reading literature in both languages.
Above all, he believes that with the right guidance and motivation, anyone can accomplish their greatest life goals whether they be academic or otherwise. He has a passion for tutoring and mentoring those interested in medicine and the sciences and share his tips on how to navigate the college journey to become the most competitive applicant possible.
