Meet Maryam: One of our premier senior-level College Readiness consultants with a
diverse background in teaching and instructional design. Maryam employs Ivy Admissions’
cutting edge college readiness process in order to support students getting into the schools of
their dreams.
Maryam completed her undergraduate education at New York University and Binghamton
University with a B.A in Psychology along with concentrations in Cognition, Child and
Adolescent Mental Health, Education, and Philosophy. In addition to her coursework, she
studied two languages, Arabic and Persian.
Her undeniable passion for helping students grow in all facets of life motivated Maryam to
undertake several undergraduate internships while in New York and abroad. Her deep-rooted
interest in students’ developmental and mental well-being proved to be essential when she
also conducted her fieldwork at the NYU Child Study Center. As the head teaching assistant
for a German literature course, Maryam discovered her enthusiasm for teaching and found
time to tutor and mentor students in a wide range of subjects. Furthermore, she has spent a
great deal of time working with students on their college applications, including their resume
and narrative building. For her work with students and engagement in the undergraduate
college community, Maryam was presented with the Edward H. Prentice Excellence Award.
Maryam received her M.A. at Columbia University in Curriculum and Teaching with a
concentration in Educational Technology. She successfully merged her interests in curriculum
design and cognition by creating neuroscience-based technology for middle school students.
Her innovative design and paper on the gamification of brainwaves through EEG technology
was accepted by the 2020 International Association for Computing Machinery Conference on
Interaction Design and Children (ACM-IDC), which has led to her now advancing this work
into an extensive research study. Moreover, she has written several case studies and
curricula in varied subject areas and has taught her own logic and philosophy-based course at
a private school in Harlem, NY. Maryam has further worked on improving the instructional
development of various schools abroad, especially their Philosophy for Children programs.
For her academic work and contributions at Columbia, Maryam was awarded the A.M.Ayer Fellowship.
In her spare time, Maryam enjoys skiing, biking, hiking, as well as painting and reading
poetry. She is also very passionate about exploring different genres of books and is currently
working on publishing her first textbook on the development of mathematical and critical
thinking for secondary schools.
Above all else, Maryam strongly believes that each student brings a unique perspective to the
table. She values building a caring and strong relationship with students, as she finds this to
be essential for fostering a dynamic approach to helping them accomplish their academic and
lifelong goals.
